The Probationer Papers. At the start of the 1960s two young men started a friendship that revolved around their shared love for all things occult. After their initial interest slowly wore off, they both went their separate ways; one was to study under an adept from Dion Fortune's Society of the Inner Light, whilst the other would be initiated into the Wiccan tradition, traveling to Gerald Gardiner's Isle of Man coven. Several years pass and the two fortuitously meet again (in their native Wolverhampton). Realising that their shared passion was still as strong, they decided there and then to start their own group. Neither of the two realised at the time but, this would lead to the formation of the most sought after (and now legendary) magical group of it's day — the Order of the Cubic Stone was born!
 
Within a couple of years of starting, the group began the release of their official journal The Monolith. The twice yearly periodical contained original material from within the group and garnered much critical acclaim, appearing in both Colin Wilson's The Occult and Francis Kings Ritual Magic in England. Tales of a severed hand and golden mists appearing in their temple were only to enhance their reputation as the cutting-edge magical group in England.
