![Jack Smith (14/11/32-18/09/89) was an American director, performer, and photographer who was a pioneer in the underground film scene from the early 1960s onwards.
He is best known for Flaming Creatures (1963), a film which pretty much established the camp/trash film aesthetic, later championed by John Waters and others.
After making only a few more films, he concentrated on staging elaborate theatrical productions and slide shows on a shoestring budget, often performed in his cramped apartment or other attic spaces.
Midian is pleased to have a selection of scarce ephemera and books relating to this underappreciated maverick, including leaflets, flyers, books, and a stunning colour photograph by the master of the Mylar chamber Ira Cohen.
